A powerful earthquake of 6.8 magnitude has killed at least eighteen people and left hundreds injured in eastern Turkey.
Rescue teams have been deployed to trace the 30 missing people. Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu said that there was nobody trapped under the debris in Malatya but in Elazig, search and rescue efforts were currently under way to find 30 citizens. According to reports, some 553 people were injured in the earthquake.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said all the necessary steps were being taken to help people affected by the earthquake. “We stand by our people,” Erdogan said on Twitter.

According to the Disaster and Emergency Management Agency of Trurkey, the earthquake had hit Sivrice at around 8:55 PM.
