New Delhi, January 13, 2020:

At least fourteen people, including women and children, have died following heavy snowfall and rain in Pakistan’s Balochistan on Monday.

Roadways and airways have also been impacted due to extreme cold in several parts of Pakistan’s largest province.

In Quetta, incessant snowfall, after 20 long years, led to the collapsing of a large number of mud houses, claiming lives in Pishin district’s Chaman, Barshor and Bostan areas.

In Shahabzai area of Zhob district, six people, including three women and children, died and two others were injured when the roof of their house collapsed. Five others died in Killi Luqman in Pakistan in a similar incident.

More than twelve people were injured in snowfall-related accidents according to Quetta Civil Hospital. The Meteorological officials said that the heavy snowfall in Quetta had broken the 20-year-old record. They also said that Qilla Saifullah recorded three to four feet snow, double than the usual 1.5 feet snow.

The regional transport authorities of various districts have warned people against travelling on the Quetta-Karachi highway.
