Indian-American Journalist Passes Away in New York after 9-Day Battle with Coronavirusindian

New York, April 8, 2020:

Indian-American journalist Brahm Kanchibotla has recently died after contracting the deadly novel coronavirus in New York city, the epicentre of the virus in the United States. Sudama Kanchibotla, his son, said that the journalist died after fighting the virus for 9 days in a hospital. Brahm Kanchibotla, who was 66, was employed by the United News of India.

During his 28-year career in the US, he had worked for 11 years as a content editor for Merger Markets, a financial publication, and also did a stint with News India-Times weekly newspaper. Meanwhile, his family are not sure how to arrange his last rites due to the strict restrictions in the US.

He had emigrated to the US in 1992 after having worked for several publications in India. "We have not set a date and it will have to be a very small gathering because only ten people are allowed at funerals," he said.

The journalist's son also informed that Brahm Kanchibotla showed COVID-19 symptoms on March 23. When his conditions worsened, he was admitted to a hospital on Long Island on March 28 and given an oxygen mask. However, his condition did not improve and he suffered a heart attack on March 31. Besides Sudama, Brahm Kanchibotla is survived by his wife Anjana and daughter Siujana.

Meanwhile, the Indian scribe's death has been condoled by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who took to Twitter to express his feelings. "Deeply anguished by the passing away of Indian-American journalist Mr. Brahm Kanchibotla. He will be remembered for his fine work and efforts to bring India and USA closer. Condolences to his family and friends. Om Shanti", Modi wrote.

Worldometers.info reports that the US has reported the highest number of cases across the world, with 400,549 cases reported till now. 12,857 of the coronavirus patients have died due to complications due to the disease. Italy still leads in the number of deaths reported at 17,127.
