Over hundreds of Indian nurses, who hold diploma certificates in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), are likely to lose their jobs due to a new educational requirement, reports said.
It has been reported that over 200 nurses Indian nurses have already lost their jobs, while several others have been demoted.

This was done after the UAE made a bachelor’s degree in nursing as the minimum educational qualification for registered nurses.
Reportedly, these nurses who chose to be retained, need to do a Post Basic BSc Nursing Programme from universities accredited by the Ministry of Education (MoE) by 2020.
However, another difficulty arises for the nurses who have enrolled for the programme as their requests for equivalency certificate for their diploma certificates are being rejected.
The equivalency certificate for diploma certificates is being issued by MoE that is obtained from the state of Kerala, the only Indian nursing body recognised by the ministry.

It has been reported that the nurses will approach India's Minister of State for External Affairs V. Muraleedharan for urgent intervention to solve the issue.
