ISKCON temple vandalised in Bangladesh; 1 killed in fresh violence in Noakhali

DHAKA: An ISKCON temple in Bangladesh's Noakhali district was allegedly attacked by a crowd on Friday, and one of the community's members was killed, according to reports.

The ISKCON authorities requested the Bangladesh government to respond quickly, ensuring the safety of all Hindus and prosecuting the perpetrators.

Despite Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's assurances that anyone who damaged Hindu temples would be hunted down and punished after incidents of communal violence, the claimed attack on the temple occurred.

Following reports of attacks on Hindu temples, the Bangladesh government has increased security in order to permit Durga Puja celebrations.

The government has also deployed paramilitary forces and police contingents across the country due to the security situation.

Meanwhile, after attacks and battles, the situation in Chandpur, Cox's Bazar, Bandarban, Sylhet, Chittagong, and Gazipur remained bleak, according to local media.

The Bangladesh government has promised increased protection to the country's Hindu community, stating that Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) troopers have been deployed in 22 districts to ensure safety.

Moreover, according to Lt Colonel Faizur Rahman, BGB director of operations, BGB forces were deployed at the request of the pertinent deputy commissioners and on orders from the Home Ministry.
