At least twelve people were killed and four hospitalized after a shooter opened fire indiscriminately in a Virginia Beach city building on Friday afternoon, US Government sources have confirmed.
After the killing spree, the shooter, a public utilities worker, was killed after an extended gun battle with local authorities, police said. The longtime public utilities employee began firing indiscriminately at his co-workers with a handgun, the authorities said
Mayor Bobby Dyer has dubbed this the "most devastating day in the history of Virginia Beach."
According to media reports, the gunman fired indiscriminately as he went through all three floors of Building 2 at the city's municipal center. Moreover, at least twelve persons were gunned down in the attacks.
According to sources, the shooting suspect has been identified as DeWayne Craddock, 40, worked as a certified professional engineer for the city of Virginia Beach in the Public Utilities Department.
