The unit's Chief Liaison Officer Naw Bu informed, "The direct hit on the helicopter scared away two Burmese Air Force jets which were strafing the KIA base in the vicinity."

KIA seized this specific base from Tatmadaw on March 25.

Bu also added, "KIA will fight like hell to prevent the capture of Alaw Bum Base Otherwise they'd dominate a large swathe of the administrative capital of Kachin state, the territory between Bhamo and Myitkyina."

The clashes between KIA and Tatmadaw started after KIA launched a sneak attack on the military in mid-March near sai Zin village.

Due to the ongoing clashes, almost 7000 ethnic Kachins have been displaced from Momauk area.
