Myanmar Landslide Death Toll Reaches 65

Yangon, August 13, 2019:

The death toll from a landslide that was reported in southern Myanmar on Friday has reached 65, as per latest updates by the Myanmar Fire Services Department.

The landslide took place when the mountainside of Ma-lat Mountain collapsed due to the monsoon downpour in Paung township.

Residents, houses and vehicles have been severely affected.

Reportedly, as of August 11, as many as 11 bodies were retrieved from the site of the landslide Sunday morning, which later increased to 52 that has now reached to 65. The landslide buried 25 homes and five vehicles in the area.

There are also reports that more than 100 people living in the area were struck by the disaster. It is estimated that over 40 people are still missing, including tourists and passers-by.
