Mysterious Disease Kills Dozens of Dogs in Norway

Guwahati, September 8, 2019:

Dozens of dogs have been killed by a mysterious disease in recent days in Norway and the authorities haven't been able to detect the cause behind it.

The Food Safety Authority of Norway said that reports of another six cases of dogs falling ill have been received, with two them already dead. They all bare the same symptoms of vomiting and bloody diarrhea.

Reportedly, the spokesperson of the Food Safety Authority said that the disease seemed ‘very serious for a dog’. But the agency is yet unaware as to whether it is contagious or just a series of individual cases.

The majority of cases have been reported in and around Norway’s capital Oslo, also in the cities of Bergen and Trondheim, and the northern Nordland municipality.

The Norwegian Veterinary Institute said Friday that it had detected two unspecified bacteria in autopsies, but was unable to clarify whether that was the cause of the outbreak.

National Veterinary Institute of Sweden said it had been swamped with questions from dog owners, concerned over the spread of the disease across the border.
