Bhutan, August, 18, 2019:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Bhutanese counterpart Lotay Tshering signed 9 MoUs (Memorandum of Understanding) at the Semtokha Dzong on Saturday in order to strengthen the ties and promote development in the two countries.

It included a MoU on Aircraft accident and investigation between the aircraft investigation unit of the government of India and the Ministry of Information and Communications

It also included MoU between the Royal University of Bhutan (RUB) and four leading Indian Universities for exchange of academic and faculties. The National Legal Institute of Bhutan and the National Judicial Academy of India also signed the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in Judicial Education and Mutual Exchanges.

MoU between the Department of Information Technology and Telecom (DITT) and the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) was also signed towards developing and promoting space technology. Another MoU between the National Knowledge Network of India and Druk Research and Education Network were signed to enable collaborative research, development and enable knowledge and information sharing.

Apart from the MoUs, the two Prime Ministers also launched Stamps commemorating five decades of Bhutan-India Hydropower Cooperation. The 720 MW Mangdechhu hydroelectric power plant was inaugurated, along with the remote launching of the ISRO-built Ground Station for South Asian Satellite.
