Former Pakistani cricket captain Shahid Afridi has landed in the soup after an old video emerged of him saying that he smashed the TV in his house after he saw his daughter imitating an ‘aarti’ (Hindu religious ritual of worship) scene while watching an Indian serial.
It is an interview clip where the anchor asked Afridi if he has broken a TV in anger. Afridi confirmed that he did it once because of his wife.
“There were a lot of popular soap operas in Star Plus. I used to tell my wife to watch it alone and not with the kids. Once, I came out of my room and saw one of my daughters imitating the ‘aarti’ scene while watching a show on Star Plus. I looked at her and then smashed the TV into the wall,” the all-rounder stated.
The video was posted by a Twitter user, and immediately became viral. Meanwhile, Afridi has been slammed by netizens for his comments.
It is to be mentioned that this incident has occurred merely days after it came to light that Pakistani cricketer Danish Kaneria was subjected to religious discrimination in the Pakistani cricket team. Former Pakistani fast bowler, Shoaib Akhtar came to his aid by revealing that Kaneria was being treated unfairly by this teammates because he is a Hindu.
Akhtar received severe backlash for his comment from many of his teammates ,over his shocking allegations of discrimination.
