KABUL: The new Taliban regime in Helmand province in southern Afghanistan has prohibited barbers from shaving or trimming beards, as well as playing music in their shops, according to reports.

According to reports, the Taliban have prohibited barbers in the region from shaving and trimming men's beards because it "violates Islamic law."

According to a media report, officials from the Ministry of Islamic Orientation advised against stylish hair and shaving beards during a meeting with representatives of men's hairdressing salons in the provincial capital, Lashkar Gah.

According to The Frontier Post, the order was widely circulated on social media.

Meanwhile, Afghan barbers in the area say the ban has made it more difficult for them to make a living because citizens are now attempting to "blend in" to avoid Taliban fighters.

Despite their promises to the contrary, the Taliban have begun to gradually re-impose repressive laws and policies.

They are enforcing laws that defined its rule from 1996 to 2001 when they implemented their version of Islamic Sharia law.

In the midst of reports of widespread human rights violations by the Taliban in Afghanistan, the group had previously displayed the bodies of four people who were killed after allegedly carrying out a kidnapping in the western city of Herat.

It has been more than a month since the Taliban captured Kabul following an aggressive and rapid advance against Afghan government forces in the midst of the withdrawal of US and NATO troops from the country.
