Two Rohingya nationals were killed in a gunfight with suspected drug smugglers along the borders with Myanmar, claimed Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB). The incident was reported in the East Farirbeel area on Monday afternoon.
Reportedly, during the “gun battle,” a border guard was also injured.
The border guards recovered an ID card issued by the UNHCR from one of the two Rohingya nationl's body that helped the BGB identify the two men.
The BGB also recovered methamphetamine-based yaba tablets and on thorough search, arms from the site after the incident was recovered.
It is to be mentioned here that the Border Guards Bangladesh has tightened the security along the borders of Bangladesh after it reportedly caught 1000 Bangladeshi nationals returning back from India.
It is suspected that the Bangladeshi nationals have been returning to Bangladesh from India due to the prevailing situation of unrest over the CAA and NRC in the country.
