MOSCOW: President Vladimir V. Putin (68) of Russia is isolating himself because of coronavirus cases in his inner circle, the Kremlin said on Tuesday.
The announcement was made during a readout of Putin's phone call with Tajik President Emomali Rahmon, according to the Kremlin.
In the phone call with Tajikistan's President Emomali Rakhmon, Putin said that in connection with identified coronavirus cases in his circle, he will observe a self-isolation regime for a certain period of time and will not attend a regional summit in person later this week in Dushanbe, said Kremlin.
Putin cancelled a planned trip to Tajikistan this week for a high-level meeting with CSTO and SCO regional alliances with the rapid deterioration of security in neighbouring Afghanistan in focus.

Putin said earlier this year he had already administered two doses of a regimen of Russia’s Sputnik V vaccine but continued to remain extremely careful in public appearances often requiring people to quarantine themselves before they meet him.
He hinted about isolating himself because of possible coronavirus exposure, though some Russian outlets interpreted his comment as a joke
In an informal conversation with Paralympics athletes, Putin said “Even around me, there are problems with this Covid thing,”
