One Kuki National Army (KNA) cadre was allegedly abducted after being chased some days back in Kamjong district of Manipur. Since the last report, there has been no trace of his whereabouts.
It is suspected NSCN (IM) is behind the abduction of the cadre which has pushed KNA to retaliate. The KNA feels that retaliation on NSCN (IM) present at Sinakeithei, Manipur, may be the best option.
From Sunday, KNA have been trying to cross the village avenge the abduction but were obstructed by the villagers and chief association of the areas, including Kuki villages.
Today, however, KNA made a secret move from the other side of the river and were shot upon when they were seen. Following this, KNA retaliated to the attack and a cross-firing took place and lasted for around 15-20 minutes.
According to reports, firing has now subsided.
Police and Assam Rifles have rushed into the village. According to our sources, the place of occurrence is somewhere near the bridge near the entrance of the village.
