The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) on Tuesday staged a massive protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi against the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016. The protest was organized by former Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh and well as the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC).
Speaking to InsideNE, the former Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh cautioned that the Bill will “divide the country.” He also added that the Bill if gets passed in the Rajya Sabha, it will destroy the entire demography and the composition of the Northeast. “We have been opposing the Bill since the day it was introduced in 2016. If the Bill gets passed Manipur will be affected the most”, he added.
The participants of the protest also raised slogans the current BJP administration and the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi.
