Guwahati, March 15, 2019:

As the battle for the 25 Lok Sabha thrones is set to begin, the Congress’ main objective will be to wrest control of the Northeast away from the BJP and its NEDA allies. Thus, the party is fielding the strongest of candidates, including three former Chief Ministers in Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, and Nagaland, as it battles the BJP in a do-or-die battle to recover its fort in North East India. As per sources, Congress candidates who will vie for the throne in the Northeast are:

Nagaland:

The battle for the lone Nagaland seat will be fought by former CM K L Chichi who recently defected to the Congress from the BJP.

Meghalaya:

Tura: Mukul Sangma, former CM will contest the seat where his main contender is expected to be NPP’s Agatha Sangma.

Shillong: Vincent Pala, MP and former Union Minister.

Arunachal Pradesh:

Arunachal West: Nabam Tuki, former CM will be the representative from the Constituency.

Arunachal East: James L Wanglat, former Home Minister

Tripura:

West Tripura: Pradyut Dev Barman, Working President TPCC, Head of the erstwhile Manikya Kingdom will contest the election.

East Tripura: Gopal Chandra Roy, former MLA and Congress veteran will contest for the ST-reserved seat in Tripura.

Sikkim:

Bharat Basnett, Sikkim Congress President will contest for the lone Sikkim seat.
