Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh announced on Friday that five policemen had been suspended in connection with a custodial death in the state.
The CM said that the five police commandos have been suspended for the custodial death of a Abdul Gaffer, a taxi driver. He mentioned that a compensation of Rs 5 lakh will be paid to the family of the deceased and job will be offered to one of his kin.
Reportedly, Gaffer was picked up by a team of police commandos and personnel of 26 Assam Rifles from his house and on the next day, his family was informed of his death.
The victim’s family submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister demanding judicial inquiry and booking of the accused.
Locals had put the state administration under pressure by asking for justice for the deceased by staging protests.
