Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh has claimed that the State government had already taken precautionary measures to check possible influx of illegal immigrants into the State from neighbouring Assam where complete NRC draft was published on July 30.
Police check posts have been opened near the inter-State border and in vulnerable areas of the State, even as police personnel have intensified patrolling near the border.
Speaking to the press, Singh said a State Level Monitoring Committee and District Level Monitoring Committee have been formed to monitor entry or presence of illegal immigrants. The committees would also take steps for creating public awareness in order to effectively counter the situation, he added.
The Chief Minister said the State-level committee, headed by Special Secretary (Home) as Chairman, had all deputy commissioners and superintendents of police as members.
In the district level monitoring committees, deputy commissioners were chairmen, while superintendents of police, sub-divisional officers, sub-divisional police officers, sub-divisional commissioners and officers in-charge where members, he said.
The committees would also invite representatives of civil society organisations for participation in their proceedings, if necessary.
