Chairman of the outlawed Kangleipak Community Party (Maoist), who escaped from the police custody 11 years back, was among three insurgent leaders from Manipur arrested by a joint police team of Bihar and Manipur at separate hideouts in Patna, the capital city of Bihar.
They were brought back in flights at the International Imphal airport on Sunday and sent to police custody for 10 days after being produced before the Duty Magistrate Imphal East by a team of Manipur police, led by Additional SP in charge of SDPO Porompat, Shankerjeet.
They were arrested on August 8 and the following day, they were produced before the Court concerned at Patna and taken into six days transit remand, to be produced before the Court in Manipur.
Inspector General of Police (Range) Manipur, Themthing Ngasangva, IPS said that Chairman of Kangleipak Community Party (Maoist), Sapam Kangleipal Meetei (38), self styled finance secretary of Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s War Group), Wahengbam Thoi Luwang (36) and active member of KCP (People’s War Group), Kangabam Roshan Singh (27) were arrested from different hideouts at Hardinge road near Patna Junction on August 8, 2019.
Sapam Kangleipal is a wanted proclaimed offender. He was arrested on May 7, 2008 from Manipur Press Club, Imphal on seditious charge and detained under NSA at Sajiwa jail, Imphal. However, on the intervening night of December 28 and 29 in 2008, he had escaped from the Security Ward at the JN hospital, Imphal where he was lodged for medical treatments.
