Kuki rebels killed by security forces In Manipur

IMPHAL: Four insurgents were killed by security forces on Sunday in Hingojang, Manipur, during a joint operation. The insurgents were said to be members of the Kuki National Liberation Army.

The joint operation was launched on Saturday by the Assam Rifles and the Indian Army's 3 Corps, and the exchange of fire began early Sunday.

When the operation began, there were more than ten insurgents present.

The firefighting operation began on Sunday morning. According to the public relations officer (defence) in Manipur, the operation is still ongoing and more information is awaited.

The origins of Kuki insurgent groups can be traced back to the Kuki community's desire to protect itself from other militant groups, as well as the aftermath of the Kuki Naga and Kuki — Zomi ethnic clashes in 1997-98, according to the official website of the Indian Army.

The organisations are active in northeast India and northwest Myanmar.
