Kukis in Manipur Protest in Fear of Losing Lands after 'Final Naga Solution'

Tengnoupal, October 31, 2019:

The Kukis of Manipur have raised a hue-and-cry as the protracted talks between the GoI and the Isaak-Muivah faction of the NSCN seemingly draws towards a close.

Fearing that the 'final solution' to the Naga issue will compromise the 'territorial integrity of Manipur, people from the state's Tengnoupal district staged a massive rally demanding the protection of their land.

The mostly-Kuki led agitation was attended by a significant number of Kukis, who shouted slogans decrying the Government of India and demanded a Kuki Homeland. The protesters also submitted a memorandum to the DC of Tengnoupal in this regard. They also demanded for a Kuki Territorial Council for their protection and well-being.

Tengnoupal District Headquarters Kuki Chief's Association, Tengnoupal District, started the people's rally from Tengnoupal Community Hall in association with various Civil Society Organisations (CSO) and went to the DC Tengnoupal complex, where the majority of the protest took place.

The impending 'Naga solution' has also sparked fear that vast territory Kukis' land will be included in the Naga integrated land.

It may be mentioned here that the Government Interlocutor, R N Ravi, has set a deadline of October 31 for conclusion of the talks which is expected to bring a solution to the oldest insurgency in the Northeast.
