On 15th May, the Manipuri DY CM spoke to Inside Northeast and shared concerns about the corona pandemic in Manipur.
Q. How do you see the migrant Manipuris coming back?
DY CM: The govt is now arranging buses and is yet to formulate a policy. But, we may have to go back to horticulture and cottage industry.
Q. What are your concerns about the economic scenario ahead with PM Modi's call for going local?
DY CM: We have to follow the PM's goal of self-reliance and lead a simple life instead of a luxury. We have to focus on the primary sector and self-reliance. The rest will come slowly since the secondary and tertiary sectors are now closed. We have to exploit the local industries.
Q. How's the overall scenario after the corona lockdown?
DY CM: Manipur has been lucky so far due to less entry and exit points from the state. Now, the main priority is to bring people from outside to Manipur. We have more than 1000 comings from Chennai by train. The concern is them passing through red zones. But, Manipur has a robust health system, and as you see the first 2 cases have been discharged from the hospital.
