Imphal (Manipur), 16 Aug, 2018:

The Zeliangrong Civil Organizations (ZCO) enforced a 24-hour ban on the movement of vehicular traffic on National Highway 37 and on all works of national projects in Zeliangrong areas since Wednesday midnight demanding the arrest of some NSCN-IM rebels who had allegedly abducted some local youth and students’ leaders on August 4 and assaulted them in captivity.

The ZCO alleged that the Rongmei Students’ Organization Manipur (RSOM) and Liangmai Naga Katimai Ruangdi (LNKR) were involved in the incident of abduction.

“The abduction and the subsequent holding of them as captives at Tamenglong district headquarters and the threat issued to leaders of Zeliangrong Civil Organizations by the NSCN-IM speak of the coordination between RSOM-LNKR and NSCN-IM. Therefore, the functionaries of the so-called RSOM and LNKR should be immediately booked under relevant Sections of the IPC for playing with the lives and security of citizens,” the ZCO said in a statement.

It informed that the threat issued to ZCO leaders by the NSCN-IM had been already appraised to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs and the state government.
