The Manipur government has closed its border with neighboring Myanmar in a latest step to keep the deadly Coronavirus (COVID-19) at bay.
The state government has shut all the border entry points with Myanmar in order to prevent the spread of the virus that has claimed more than 4000 lives globally. It has banned the entry of Myanmarese from Gate No. 1 and 2 in Moreh.
Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Tuesday shared the information on Twitter. “As a precautionary measures of transmission of Coronavirus /COVID-19, the international border with Myanmar has been closed including gate no 1 and 2 in Moreh until further orders,” he tweeted while sharing the notification issued by the state Home Ministry.
“In view of possible threat of transmission of Coronavirus/COVID-19, Government of Manipur hereby prohibits movement of people across the international border and accordingly orders closure of Gate No. 1, No. 2, Moreh and other crossing points along Manipur sector of Indo-Myanmar border until further orders,” read the notification.

The Government has further instructed the authorities to take necessary action immediately. The Northeastern states have adopted measures to prevent the spread of Coronavirus. Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh governments have also restricted the entry of foreigners. In Assam, at least 400 people have been quarantined following their contact with an American tourist who tested positive in Bhutan after traveling from Guwahati.
