The Singhat Battalion of the Assam Rifles, under the aegis of Churachandpur sector, has been successful in apprehending five insurgents in Manipur in an operation which lasted for more than 3 days.
The insurgents belonging to United National Liberation Front (UNLF), People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK-RA) and PREPAK groups had run away from their camps in Myanmar and were illegally crossing the India-Myanmar Border when they were nabbed by the security personnel. They were apprehended by columns of Singhat Battalion who had launched an operation after receiving secret information.
The individuals are reportedly in the age group of 19-35 years and have had basic training in their camps across the border. Poor living conditions, extremely low salaries and the constant danger looming over their heads had allegedly prompted them to escape from these camps.
Post questioning and ascertaining their identity, the insurgents were handed over to the Police.
The apprehension of five hardcore insurgents without any collateral damage has helped deal a severe blow to the rebel groups entrenched in the Northeast region as well as in the neighboring country of Myanmar.
It can be surmised that the apprehension of the five insurgents is also a sound indicator of transition to normalcy and the same will go a long way in maintaining peace and tranquility in Manipur and North East as a whole.
