The joint body of All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO), United Committee Manipur (UCM) and Committee of Civil Societies Kangleipak (CCSK) has called a general strike from the midnight of July 31 till the midnight of August 1 as a mark of protest against the alleged divisive policy of Government of India regarding the Naga peace accord.
The organisation said it would launch a series of protests to prevent the Naga peace accord from affecting Manipur’s integrity. In this regard, it will stage a sit-in protest on July 28 at Keishampat Leimajam Leikai community hall and a mass rally on August 18.
The joint body appealed to people to support its movement. It clarified that the series of protests were not directed towards any particular community.
The president of AMUCO, Deban, said, “The central leaders, in a meeting held earlier between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the representatives of the joint body, had given an assurance that Manipur will not be affected by the Framework Agreement. But, the recent report, submitted to the Parliamentary Standing Committee by Centre’s interlocutor in the Naga peace talks RN Ravi, throws light on the possibility of extension of Article 371A of the Indian Constitution”.
