AIZAWL: Days after resigning from the presidential position of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC), Govindas Konthoujam, a six-time legislator from Bishnupur, has resigned from the Manipur Legislative Assembly as well as from the party membership giving fuel to rumours that he is headed to the rival Bharatiya Janata Party camp.
Earlier, though MPCC has denied the rumours of Konthoujam joining the saffron party after his resignation, speculations were doing the rounds that Kouthoujam was unhappy over not being offered the role of Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader.

Later, he submitted his resignation from the primary membership of INC to MPCC interim president Nameirakpam Loken.

Konthoujam, a former Cabinet minister, was appointed as the president of MPCC last December by Sonia Gandhi herself.
