Imphal, October 4, 2019:

A 12-year-old minor has been allegedly molested by a lab technician in Manipur.

A lab technician of the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) was accused of molesting a minor inside the ECG laboratory room.

The accused, identified as Thokchom Suraj (36), works as Laboratory technician at RIMS on a contract basis.

The victim was admitted at RIMS casualty on Wednesday night after she suffered from dysentery. As advised by the doctor, the Class IV student, along with her mother, had visited the ECG room in order to undergo medical test.

Howver, during her ECG test, the lab technician was not allowing her mother inside the room. Later, the victim complained of pain in her abdomen, to which, the technician said that it might be due to appendix. She then complained of pain in her private part.

Following a complaint registered at Lamphel Police Station, the accused was arrested. The RIMS authority has terminated the technician.

Massive protests followed the incident of molestation of the minor in the hospital premises.
