Manipur: Minister assures on Framework Agreement

Manipur’s Horticulture and Soil Conservation Minister Thounaojam Shyamkumar Singh has urged people in the state to trust the N Biren Singh government on the issue of “Framework Agreement” which the Isak-Muivah faction of National Socialist Council of Nagalim (NSCN-IM) had signed with the Centre in 2015.

“People need to trust the government and give time to it to clear issues such as the Naga Framework Agreement and the ongoing impasse surrounding the vice chancellor of Manipur University, Adya Prasad Pandey,” the Minister said at the 11th state level Pineapple Festival- Cum-Sellers and Buyers Meet and Youth Festival, 2018 on Sunday.

He said the state government was taking the opinions of public and all issues would be sorted out in consultations with them saying the government would never work against the sentiments of the public.

On the introduction of Manipur Liquor Prohibition (Second Amendment) Bill, 2018 in the state Assembly, he said the health of the public, especially the youths, was affected by the consumption of sub-standard liquor and those imported from neighbouring states.

“The government will introduce the Bill in view for the welfare of the public so that sub-standard liquor/alcohol can be controlled in the state”, Shyamkumar said.
