The National Investigation Agency (NIA) took up investigation relating to huge seizure of Arms and Ammunition. Based on the inputs, the Assam Rifles checked a white Maruti Gypsy vehicle near Lower Hungdung, which was moving from Ukhrul towards Imphal.
Upon search of the vehicle, large quantities of weapons including two GSG-5 German rifles, one Semi-automatic shotgun and three 9mm pistols and ammunition, concealed in handbags were recovered. The persons relating to the case has been identified as Honpam Chithung, son of Akhon Chithung and Mathu Manohar, son of Arumugam Muthu who were occupants of the vehicle were arrested, on the charges of procurement and supply of arms and ammunition to insurgent groups.
Further in compliance of MHA order, NIA has re-registered case No. RC-05/2018/NIA-GUW (Seizure of Arms and Ammunition at Ukhrul, Manipur), u/s 121, 121A, 400 of IPC and section 25 (1C) of Arms Act, at PS NIA, Guwahati. The case is now under active investigation.
