Following the incessant rainfall in the past few days and subsequent flooding in several parts of the valley district, Forest and Environment Minister Shri Thounaojam Shyamkumar inspected the flood affected areas at the Andro Assembly Constituency in Imphal East district.
Addressing media persons, Shri Th. Shyamkumar said almost 70 percent of the areas in Andro are inundated in the flood water. The overflow of Thoubal river at Tulihal has caused floods in Angtha, Poiroukhonjin, Tulihal and areas near Thoubal project. He stated that the present situation cannot be blamed on anyone as it is the outcome of the exploitation of the environment.
Appealing to the citizens of the State to conserve environment and water bodies, he said it is unfortunate that the State is feeling under the flood water. He said Chief Minister Shri N Buren Singh is wholeheartedly helping the flood victims and the State Government is providing all the possible assistance.
Th. Shyamkumar said in the past only Poiroupat area used to be affected by the flood but this year due to incessant rainfall most of the areas are flooded. The Minister also provided relief materials (daily essential items) to the flood affected people.
