Manipur student activist granted bail by local court

Guwahati, February 19, 2019:

The local court on Tuesday finally granted bail to the Manipur student activist Veewon Thokchom , challenging his arrest and transit remand in a sedition case lodged against him for making remarks over the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill,2016 on the social media.

Thokchom was brought to Imphal from Delhi before being produced in court.

A team of Delhi and Manipur police arrested Thokchom in Delhi on February 15 and he had filed the petition through his brother seeking quashing of the transit remand claiming it to be defective.
