NPP Chief Conrad Sangma blows poll bugle in Manipur's Wangoi ahead of Nov by-polls

Imphal: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Thursday reached Manipur to campaign for the National People's Party (NPP) candidate contesting from Wangoi in the upcoming Assembly polls, Khuraijam Loken Singh. Sangma was accompanied by other prominent NPP leaders including Deputy Chief Minister of Manipur, Y Joykumar Singh.

Campaigning for the November 7 by-polls to four Assembly constituencies in Manipur is now gaining momentum. The major players are the ruling BJP, the opposition Congress and the National People’s Party, which is a part of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

Addressing supporters, Sangma exuded confidence that Loken Singh would win with a "thumping majority" in the Constituency.

Sangma, in his address, urged the people to choose leaders they they can "trust" and "who will never fail the people. "He is a man you can trust, a man who is committed to the people of Manipur," Sangma said.

Speaking about his own NPP party, Sangma said, "We need a voice, we need a platform, we need a political party that is going to fight for us and ensure that justice is done for the people of the Northeast."

BJP candidate Oinam Lukhoi is he current favourite from Wangoi. A recent resignee from the Congress, Lukhoi has now been made a Cabinet Minister.
Earlier, Deputy Chief Minister Yumnam Joykumar of the NPP said the party candidate would defeat the BJP in Wangoi.

He however said the NPP would not withdraw support to the coalition ministry. It needs mention here that four NPP MLAs were made Cabinet Ministers. Recently, twoof those Ministers were sacked in a major shake-up. Despite the intervention of national NPP president Conard Sangma, who is the Chief Minister of Meghalaya, the two Ministers were not reinducted.

Meanwhile, the Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh has said that during its three and a half years of rule, the coalition government had implemented many developmental works which the Congress could not do.
