IMPHAL: Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagalim (Isaak-Muivah) militants and 29 Assam Rifles jawans today engaged in a gunfight in Manipur's Tamenglong district in the early hours of the morning today. The NSCN-IM rebels and Assam Rifles jawans exchanged gunfire around 5:30 am in the morning in an area under the Khoupum Police Station.

According to sources, the encounter took place near the Khoupom Police station in Tamenglong district. Although 3 NSCN (IM) militants are said to have incurred injuries, no casualties have been reported so far. None of the jawans suffered injuries.
It needs mention here that 6 suspected militants belonging to the NSCN (IM), separatist group were killed in a gunfight with security forces in Arunachal Pradesh’s Longding district of Arunachal Pradesh in July last.

A team comprising the Indian Army, the Assam Rifles and the Arunachal Pradesh Police launched a search operation in Nginu village after receiving information about the presence of militants in the area
