Fearing extension of provisions of Article 371 (A) to Manipur as well, hundreds of activists of the Kangleipak Students’ Association (KSA) tried to storm the offices of State BJP and Congress here on Friday.
The students’ body alleged that the Centre was planning to give “special status” to the Nagas of Manipur under the Framework Agreement signed between New Delhi and Issac-Muivah section of Nagaland Socialist Council of Nagalim (NSCN-IM) on 3rd August 2015.
Meanwhile, leaders and members of Joint Committee of All Manipur United Clubs Organisation, Committee of Civil Societies Kangleipak and United Committee Manipur also tried to storm the residence of State BJP president K Babhananda, who is also a Rajya Sabha MP. The protesters demanded MPs from the State to raise the issue of Framework Agreement in the Parliament.
A huge contingent of security forces, however, thwarted the bids to storm the offices of the two political parties, besides the State BJP president’s residence.
The protesting leaders were later allowed to submit memorandums to leaders of the political parties.
