Supreme Court on Friday upheld an order passed by Manipur High Court, which had earlier cancelled the Manipur civil services examination in 2016.
It has asked the MPSC to conduct fresh civil services examination. The apex court also upheld the High Court’s direction to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to order a time-bound investigation into the MPSC examination.

The judgment was passed by a two-judge bench by Justices M Shantanagoudar and Sanjiv Khanna.
It is to be mentioned that the Manipur High Court, in the month of October gave out its verdict quashing the result of the examination conducted by MPSC.
More than 100 candidates appearing the examination for 82 posts of different categories in the state service approached the High Court alleging irregularities. The examination was held on September 23, 2016, and the results were declared on October 4, 2016, evaluating a total of 9040 answer scripts within 11 days.
