Section 144 CrPC clamped in East Imphal

Guwahati, February 12, 2019:

The District Administration of the Imphal East District has clamped Section 144 CrPC in the scheduled areas of the district where the agitation against Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 is growing intense led by the Civil Society Organizations under the banner of Manipur People against Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 (MANPAC) and People Alliance Manipur

An order to this effect was issued by District Magistrate, Th. Chitra Devi.

Apprehending serious breach of peace and tranquility and unlawful interference, District Magistrate Th. Chitra Devi stated, in the order, that Section 144 has been clamped within the East Imphal District as there are chances that the agitation may intensify on February 12. To cope with the situation, the prohibitory order has been passed.
