Acting on an intelligent input, a team of the Assam Rifles posted at the Jiribam Katamtala in Jiribam district of Manipur raided a hideout at Ramgaizang village in Cachar district of Assam on Wednesday.
In the raid, a self- styled Chief Minister of Naga National Council (NNC), Federal Government of Nagaland's 'Midan Peyu' in Zeliangrong Region along with his personal Secretary were apprehended by the Assam Rifles ahead of the 73rd Independence Day celebrations.
The duo were identified as self-styled CM Gaidimchungpou (48) and his personal Joint Secretary Poulanlung (41).
The team recovered two mobile phones, two civil identity cards issued by the Federation Government and some incriminating documents from their possession.
The sources further revealed that they were responsible for ruthless extortion drives from the railway workers, truck drivers, stone cutters working in different places in the western part of Manipur including Jiribam, Tamenglong, NC hills, Noneh and National Highway 37 connecting Manipur and Cachar district of Assam.
The apprehendees along with the seized items were later handed over to the Jiribam Police Station.
