The student organisation planned a sit-in protest against the State Government of Manipur.
After the protest on 7th April, the students has decided to carry out a mass rally on 10th April. The protest is logged for the failure of appointing a deserving senior most local IAS officer as Chief Secretary (CS) of Manipur as demanded. The All Tribal Student Union, Manipur (ATSUM), Democratic Students Alliance of Manipur (DESAM), Apunba Ireipakki Maheiroi Sinpanglup (AIMs), Kuki Students Organisation, General Headquarters (KSO/GHQ), and All Naga Students Association, Manipur (ANSAM) has organized the protest.
They demanded to appoint the Chief Secretary on the basis of his seniority and not through influences and connections. Later, ATSUM , DESAM, AIMS, KSO/GHQ, and ANSAM jointy signed a memorandum to Chief Minister N Biren demanding the appointment of a native IAS officer as CS of Manipur.
The memorandum pursues the problems of the hill people which are unheard and ignored and also left out in development. It also included that it was a wrong decision on the part of the Manipur government to appoint a junior officer ignoring a senior and native officer for the post of the Chief Secretary.
Further the memorandum added a demand for the appointment of a native IAS officer in the state cadre to give an opportunity to serve the people of the State. This move will translate the mission ‘Go to the Hills’ and slogan ‘Ching Tam Amatani’ into action and dispel the general belief, that has crept into the minds of the people that the Government of Manipur does not favour the tribals for any top post in the State Government, given the recent history.
