Powerful underground outfits of the north eastern India -- Coordination Committee (CorCom), and United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA)-I have called upon the people of the Northeast to boycott the 73rd Independence Day Celebrations of India in the entire region with a General Strike starting from 1:30 am of August 15 to 6:30 PM.
Preparations are being made all over the Northeast to ensure a smooth passage of the Independence Day celebrations and the authorities beefed up security to ensure that no untoward incidents happen.
Meanwhile, Guwahati Police Commissioner Deepak Kumar said that the police department has braced itself to tackle any untoward happenings in the largest city of Assam as the city prepares to host Independence Day.
Kumar said that the ULFA will no doubt try to alert people to its mischief, but promised that the police force is upto the task of thwarting ULFA’s nefarious plans. “They are greatly weakened, thus, they are desperate to make their presence felt”, he added.
