"1574 combing, search operations conducted since February to restore normalcy in Manipur": DGP Mukesh Singh

Manipur Director General of Police Mukesh Singh on Wednesday, August 12 said security forces and law-enforcement agencies conducted 1,574 combing and search operations across vulnerable and conflict-affected areas between February and August 2026 as part of efforts to restore normalcy in the state.

Addressing a function titled “Display on the Initiatives towards Bringing Normalcy in Manipur” at the 1st Battalion Manipur Rifles Parade Ground in Imphal, Singh said sustained operations by the Manipur Police, Central Armed Police Forces, Army, Assam Rifles and other security agencies had resulted in the recovery of a large quantity of arms, ammunition and explosives.

According to the DGP, security forces recovered 1,422 firearms, 7,010 rounds of ammunition and 1,137 explosives during the period. A total of 491 extremists were also arrested, he said.

The 1,574 combing and search operations were conducted in vulnerable and affected areas to recover illegal weapons, dismantle unlawful infrastructure and prevent further violence, Singh said.

The DGP also highlighted measures taken to tackle illicit poppy cultivation and drug trafficking in the state. He said 962 acres of poppy cultivation had been destroyed, while 158 cases were registered, leading to the arrest of 233 people.

Security agencies also recovered substantial quantities of heroin, ganja, opium and other narcotic substances during operations, he said.

“Combating the drug issue will not only prevent young people from drug addiction but also control financing of other illegal activities,” Singh said.

On maintaining the supply of essential commodities, the DGP said security arrangements had been strengthened along national highways to facilitate uninterrupted transportation.

He said 60,500 goods-laden trucks had been transported under security escort to ensure the continuous supply of essential commodities to different parts of the state.

Singh said the police and security agencies remained committed to creating an environment in which citizens could live without fear. He also appealed to the people of Manipur to extend their support and cooperation to the police in carrying out their duties and efforts to restore normalcy
