After President’s Rule, PM Modi may visit state: Manipur Congress

With the imposition of President’s Rule in Manipur, speculations are rife that Prime Minister Narendra Modi may finally address the crisis that has gripped the state for months.

The decision to dissolve the state government came after Chief Minister N Biren Singh’s resignation, following prolonged ethnic violence and rising law and order concerns.

Manipur Congress President Keisham Meghachandra Singh asserted that the Union Government was left with no choice but to impose President’s Rule due to the ground realities. "The infiltration and crimes that have happened in the state are due to the failure of both the CM and the Union Government. Now, I believe PM Modi will finally speak on Manipur and might even visit the state," he said.

The Home Ministry’s move to bring the state under central rule means that Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla will now oversee administration on behalf of the President of India. The legislative assembly remains in suspended animation, while governance shifts directly under the Centre.

Despite repeated demands from opposition leaders and civil society groups, PM Modi has largely remained silent on the Manipur situation since violence erupted last year.

However, political analysts believe that with the state now under direct central control, the Prime Minister may break his silence and outline the government's roadmap for restoring peace and stability.

The situation in Manipur remains tense, with security measures being further strengthened under central oversight. Meanwhile, all eyes are on PM Modi’s next move, as the nation awaits his response to one of the most critical governance challenges of his tenure.
