Around 50 youths join Yuva Sena in Manipur, call for greater political participation
Stressing the need for greater youth participation in politics amid the ongoing crisis in Manipur, around 50 youngsters from various constituencies of the valley region joined Yuva Sena Manipur Pradesh during an enrolment programme held in Imphal on Wednesday, May 27.
The programme was organised by the youth wing of Shiv Sena Manipur Pradesh to encourage active involvement of young people in politics and public affairs.
Addressing reporters on the sidelines of the event, state coordinator Nongmaithem Sanjay Singh said the organisation has been mobilising youths to participate in politics with the aim of transforming the traditional political system.
“As an effort of it, many youths have shown interest in joining the youth wing of our party and today around 50 youths have enrolled. In the coming days too, some youth icons will be joining the wing,” he said.
Singh said politics has long been viewed as a space meant only for senior leaders, but stressed that the mindset needs to change.
“It is high time that youths enter politics from an early age with a sense of nationalism and love for the state. Politics should not only be about power but also about leading the state in the right direction and securing the future,” he said.
Referring to the prolonged unrest in Manipur, Singh said educated youths have an increasing responsibility to help pave the way for peace and rebuilding the state.
He urged young people to develop their talents and skills not only for gaining knowledge but also for shaping society and the future.
The Shiv Sena leader also criticised both the state and central governments for failing to resolve the Manipur crisis even after three years.
“The government is more concerned about election politics than resolving the Manipur crisis. Had they put in the same effort shown during the recently concluded elections, peace may have been restored in Manipur by now,” he alleged.
Several newly enrolled youths were also appointed as office bearers of Yuva Sena Manipur Pradesh during the programme.
