Assam: Alleged substandard road repair work raises concerns in Nagaon’s Puranigudam

Allegations of substandard road repair work by a Public Works Department (PWD) contractor have surfaced in Puranigudam in Assam’s Nagaon district, with local residents questioning the quality of materials being used.

The road being repaired is the Diphlu Brahma Road–Rupahi connecting road, located in front of the Khatowal Mouzadar’s Office at Pahukata-Panigaon.

According to the allegations, contractor Sagar Sharma has been using red stones mixed with red soil for the repair work. Visuals from the site showed workers spreading the material on the road before applying a layer of black topping.

Residents have further alleged that the red soil and stones being used for the project were sourced through illegal excavation from the Beleuguri hills in Doboka, which fall under the jurisdiction of the Madartali Forest Range Office.

The alleged use of inferior-quality materials has raised concerns among residents that the repaired road could deteriorate within a short period, potentially resulting in public money being spent repeatedly on repairs.

Local residents have urged the government and the concerned PWD authorities to inspect the work, verify the quality and source of the materials being used and take appropriate action if the allegations are found to be true.
