Candlelight vigil held in Manipur's Tamenglong against killing of six Naga civilians
A candlelight vigil was held at the district headquarters of Tamenglong on June 14 to protest the killing of six Naga civilians and express solidarity with the bereaved families.
The programme was jointly organised by the Town Churches Union (TCU) and the Zeliangrong Baptist Churches Council (ZBCC), condemning what organisers described as the brutal and inhuman killing of six innocent Naga civilians, including two pastors — Rev. Manu Thiumai and Pastor Kenpibow.
Church leaders, members of various congregations and residents from across Tamenglong participated in the vigil, holding candles and offering prayers for the victims.
Speaking on the occasion, Rev. Pastor Guigongdai Pamei said the vigil was organised to express strong condemnation and grief over the abduction and killing of the six Naga civilians, allegedly by Kuki individuals.
Describing the incident as inhumane and merciless, he said such acts of violence should be condemned by all sections of society. He urged both the state and central governments, as well as concerned citizens, to take firm action to ensure that similar incidents do not recur in the future.
The gathering concluded with prayers for peace, justice and harmony in the region, while participants called for accountability for those responsible for the killings.
