Former Chief Minister of Manipur, N. Biren Singh, met Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla on the evening of May 27 at around 6:30 pm to discuss the prevailing situation in the state.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, Biren Singh said he apprised the Governor of the current situation and shared key points concerning the ongoing crisis. The press meet was held at Singh's residence, in Imphal East's Luwangsangbam.
He said the Governor listened patiently and is expected to initiate appropriate measures, including engaging with some of the agitators to help resolve the issue.
During the discussion, Biren Singh raised the issue of internally displaced persons and the continued suffering of people in the valley due to the prolonged closure of national highways. He noted that residents have been unable to travel by road for the past two years. He also suggested the disarmament of miscreants and armed groups as a step towards restoring peace.
He stated that the primary purpose of his visit was to express appreciation for the Ministry of Home Affairs’ recent initiative to identify illegal immigrants from Bangladesh and Myanmar, setting a 30-day deadline for the process.
Biren Singh further informed that he submitted a memorandum to the Governor, detailing the steps taken by the Manipur government in identifying illegal immigrants and addressing the associated challenges.
