Former Manipur CM Biren Singh, BJP leaders head to Delhi amid government formation buzz
Amid intensifying speculation over government formation in Manipur, a large number of BJP legislators and its alliance partners left for New Delhi on Sunday, February 1, following summons from the party’s central leadership, triggering fresh political buzz in the state.
According to multiple MLAs, the call to travel to Delhi was issued late Saturday, with instructions to reach the national capital by Sunday. While the exact agenda of the meeting has not been officially disclosed, the sudden movement of senior leaders and legislators has fuelled strong speculation that deliberations related to government formation or the political roadmap ahead are underway.
Before departing, several MLAs expressed optimism while speaking to the media, hinting at a “positive outcome” from the high-level discussions in Delhi, though they refrained from divulging specific details.
Among those who have left for Delhi so far are Sapam Kunjakeswor, Heikham Dingo, Awangbou Newmai, Salam Rajen, Sapam Nishikanta, BJP state president A Sharda, NPP state president Lurho Pfoze, Jamhelung Pame, N Loken, Kongkham Robindro, Tongbram Robindro, Thongam Shanti, I Nalini, Sapam Ranjan, Paonam Brojen, Yumnam Radheshyam, Khumukcham Joykishan, Thokchom Radheshyam, and SS Olish.
Meanwhile, former Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh is also expected to arrive at Imphal International Airport before departing for New Delhi, further adding weight to speculation of a major political development.
For the unversed, President's Rule in Manipur will end on February 13. All eyes are now on the BJP’s central leadership, as Manipur awaits clarity on the next course of governance.
