"Hopeful for peace": BJP hails Khemchand Singh’s elevation in Manipur
BJP workers gathered at the party headquarters in Imphal to celebrate Khemchand Singh’s appointment as the BJP Legislature Party Leader, hailing the development as a step towards restoring effective governance and peace in the conflict-affected state.
The BJP’s Manipur unit confirmed that the swearing-in ceremony would be held at Lok Bhavan at 6 pm on February 4, with preparations underway since early morning. Announcing the schedule on social media platform X, the party stated that Yumnam Khemchand Singh would be sworn in as the Chief Minister in the presence of senior leaders and dignitaries.
Reacting to the development, BJP Kisan Morcha Vice President Khawungsing Shimray expressed gratitude to the Centre for its continued engagement with Manipur’s political leadership. “We are thankful to the Centre for the initiative it has taken for the people of Manipur, especially for the MLAs. We are extremely happy and hopeful that, regardless of the circumstances ahead, the Centre and the state will work together to bring lasting peace to our land,” Shimray said.
Khemchand Singh’s elevation comes at a crucial juncture for Manipur, as the BJP-led NDA seeks to consolidate leadership and strengthen governance while addressing the state’s ongoing socio-political challenges.
