Joint operation launched by Special Forces, Assam Rifles against anti-national elements in Manipur’s Kangpokpi
A joint operation by elite Special Forces and the Assam Rifles was launched in the early hours of January 16, at Wainem village in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district to target anti-national elements operating in the area, official sources said.
The operation began around 6 am following credible intelligence inputs indicating the presence and movement of armed elements allegedly involved in activities threatening national security and public order.
Security personnel cordoned off strategic locations in and around Wainem village and initiated systematic search and area domination operations aimed at neutralising threats, recovering illegal arms and ammunition, and dismantling suspected hideouts used by the armed groups, officials said.
They added that utmost care is being taken to ensure the safety of civilians and to prevent any collateral damage during the operation. Additional surveillance measures have also been put in place to prevent the escape or regrouping of hostile elements.
Officials said the operation reflects the security forces’ resolve to safeguard national sovereignty and restore peace and stability in sensitive hill districts. Residents have been urged to remain calm, cooperate with the forces and report any suspicious movement or activity.
A similar Joint Operation was also conducted in Churachandpur's Henglep Sub Division.
